From last Sarturday thru next June, the EspacioFotográfico of Teatro de la Ribera –directed by Juan Travnik– presents the exhibition Puro tango, an essay of the renown Argentine photographer Guillermo Monteleone. Born in Buenos Aires, in 1958, Guillermo Monteleone has a wide and successful background in the field of advertising photography. However, he has developed -at the same time and intensely- his personal work, exhibiting in many occasions in our country as abroad. Among several themes he has covered, one of the most significant has been tango. The dancing at the milongas, with its particular ambience, has allowed him to develop a wide series in which energy and sensual plasticity of the dance is comprised. During almost six years, he took photos to the same couple in several environments typically milongueros. In Puro tango, Monteleone presents a series that compiles a part of the best images from this large work. Copies of great size, with an impeccable presentation, enhance the images’ technical quality and the author’s personal style. An style where the opportunism of shooting an scene is combined with an elaborated setting and care of details. Visual beauty from good fashion photography and a certain shooting, which catches the exact pose, exhibit the sensibility and professionalism of the author, Monteleone has learned at advertising studios, among them Luis Videla’s, and was assistant for the director of photography for Le Cirque magazine. His professional acknowledgement became greater due to the innovative campaign for UFO jeans, in 1984. Presently, his studio covers a wide range in advertising and publishing photography. Recently, he illustrated the book Qué dice el tango, by Editorial Aguilar-Galella. EspacioFotográfico del Teatro de la Ribera. Av. Pedro de Mendoza 1821, La Boca.
