The great books’ party begins today, with 1700 activities to enjoy until May 12
With the motto "El espacio de lector" (Reading’ space), the new edition of the fair will offer 1700 cultural activities in 45,500 square meters, where 1582 publishers will exhibit. Once again, the fair will welcome guest writers from abroad and Argentina, such as Canadian Naomi Klein; American father of the new journalism, Tom Wolfe; Mexican Juan Villoro; Brasilian winner of the Award Príncipe de Asturias, Nélida Piñón; Spanish writers Almudena Grandes, Manuel Vincent, Juan Cruz, among other foreign celebrities.
Among Argentine writers, will be present Sylvia Iparraguirre, Ernesto Laclau, Leopoldo Brizuela, Oscar Steimberg, Mario Bunge, Liliana Heker, Diego Golombek. Marcelo Birmajer, Luis María Pescetti, Martín Kohan, Pablo De Santis, Alberto Laiseca, Jorge Fernández Díaz, Claudia Piñeiro, and an extense list.
There will be news, such as the series "Placeres y sabores" (Pleasures and Flavors), directed to promote cooking books, a marathon Yupanquiano, due to the 100th anniversary of Atahualpa Yupanqui’s birth, with folk artists and bands from several provinces. Visual arts will be present with pieces by Argentine painters Juan Carlos Castagnino, Adolfo Nigro, and others.
Next Wednesay (April 30) there will be the City’s Night in the Fair (La Noche de la Ciudad en la Feria), and the fair in Palermo will be open from 2pm to 2am of May 1.
48 countries will be present at the 34th edition of the great literary fair, with the attendance of writers and cultural activities organized by France, Bolivia, Germany, Chile, Italy, Slovenia, Cuba, Armenia, Israel, and other nations.
The 3rd. Edition of the International Poetry Festival; the Reading Marathon, dedicated to humor in Argentine literature; free courses and workshops; the space of the tale telling for children, are some of the activities to be held.
The International Books ]Fair of B.A. is the largest in Spanish-speaking world. It is considered as one of the most important editorial and cultural events in Latin America, and it is the meeting point of writers, editors, booksellers, distributors, teachers, librarians, scientists and more than 1,200,000 readers from all over the world. Opening hours: Sun-Thu, 2pm-10pm; Fri & Sat, 2pm-11pm. April 30, it will be opened until 2am of the following day and, from 9pm, admission will be free.
